Welcome...
SBP's
WELCOME
Dear First-Year
Students,
As the
Student Body President, let me offer you my congratulations
and my welcome.
You've
made it through twelve years of school and earned the right
to call Carolina your home. This new update of the Freshman
Central website is our front door. It's one of the best ways
to look around and see what's happening inside Carolina.
I hope
each of you will take time to explore the website; each page
offers hints to the dynamic culture of Carolina. Be sure to
read about the Freshman Focus Council to see how they can
work for you. Getting involved with FFC is a great way for
freshman to improve Carolina in their very first semester.
In addition,
I strongly encourage each of you to get involved in Student
Government. There's a link on the main page that sends you
directly to our website. You will find that there are always
plenty of leadership and volunteer roles available. Whether
you want to uphold the Honor Code, save the environment, update
campus technology, or make our crosswalks safer, you can find
an active and effective role through Student Government. If
you have any questions, please get in touch with me.
Freshman
year is a time to make your own decisions. You might decide
to go to every football game, or you might decide to sleep
through them. You might decide to eat at Chase every night,
or you might decide to survive off of Pokey Sticks (These
can be delivered at 3 in the morning from Gumby's Pizza, and
I highly recommend them). You might decide to keep your room
neat, or you might choose an all-day cleaning marathon next
May as your parents arrive. One decision I hope you all will
make is to become involved in Student Government or one of
the many student organizations at Carolina. You were all selected
because you have some totally unique skill to offer the student
body at Carolina. Now it's time to decide how Carolina can
develop your gifts, and how your skills can bring you into
the Carolina tradition.
Sincerely,
Matt
