PERSON OF THE MONTH
Matt Calabria

OUR STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT!
After an exhausting campaign that lasted over a month, Matt Calabria won the majority of votes in the second run-off election.  Born on
June 27, 1983 in Cornelius, North Carolina, he attended Z.B. Vance H.S. in Charlotte.  He is majoring in Political Science and Public Policy and lives in Connor Dorm.
He was endorsed by the Daily Tar Heel, The UNC Young Democrats, Sports Clubs, the Environmental Alliance, and Blue and White Magazine, among others.

PROFESSOR OF THE MONTH
Donna LeFebvre

A trip to death row, police ride-alongs, and a party complete with homemade apple pie?  Does that sound like a class to you?  Donna's class, POLI 047H, is designed especially for freshmen and sophomores and confronts taboo subjects such as abortion, same-sex marriage, and religion in schools, just to name a few.  The informal nature of the class and the eagerness of Donna and her students make it worthwhile to attend each class.  Reading actual Supreme Court decisions that have shaped our country's history can completely change one's perspective, and Donna is there to help with that journey.  Plus, Donna just ROCKS anyway!

ORGANIZATION OF THE MONTH
C.I.V.I.C.

Umm...who did you say came to campus specifically to talk to UNC students?  Ralph Nader?  Yeah, right! Yes, the infamous Green turned Independent was brought to campus by fellow freshman Phillip Blackett, a Morehead Scholar, and his new organization, the Coalition of Independent Voters in Carolina.  Nader fielded questions regarding a possible run for president (which was formally announced weeks later), the state of politics today, as well as Green Energy.  The word "independent" in CIVIC does not refer to the Independent Party, but rather to students who are not sure where they stand in the political spectrum.

ARTIST OF THE MONTH
Gavin Degraw

Charming Chapel Hill students with his lively performance at Cat's Cradle just a month ago, Gavin is now being featured on MTV and VH1 as the next big thing.  His raspy voice and boy-next-door looks make one think of both John Mayer and Jason Mraz, and when he sang Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get it On," the girls fainted.  Ahh, Gavin, we remember you when.

RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH
Elmo's Diner
Carr Mill Mall
Carrboro, NC 27510
(919) 929-2909

"Where is Carrboro" you ask?  Why its just one bus-stop away from downtown Chapel Hill, or 20 minutes or so walking.  It is a diner with an enormous variety of food, ranging from breakfast (served all day), vegetarian fare, and Meditteranean specialties.  The waitstaff is friendly, the food is hearty and delicious, and its very inexpensive.  Located next to Weaver St. Market.

MOVIE OF THE MONTH

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

What? A Jim Carrey movie where he is not wearing prosthetics or a goofy grin?  This surreal movie told chronologically backwards confronts the questions of whether all memories are worthwhile, and how much you learn from relationships gone awry.  To tell you more would ruin all of its enjoyable twists and turns.  For a limited time playing at the Carolina Theater, which is right below Top of the Hill and across the street from Frat Court.

LINK OF THE MONTH
ITUNES

Legal downloads ($.99 / song) as well as unlimited song-sharing with students make ITUNES the savior of the week.  Not only will the music police not be busting down your door, but you can learn a lot about the music tastes of your friends and neighbors.
