A little introduction...
Nearing then end of second semester, many students are not just worried about finals, but about scrambling to find a job or a program to get involved in over the summer. Summer break gives students a time to try new programs and experiences. Whether you are loathe to leave beautiful Chapel Hill or just cannot wait to travel somewhere exotic, there are several options available through UNC.
Study Abroad
Offering over 230 programs in 64 countries, with many of them
occurring during the summer, the Study Abroad Office can answer
any of your questions about availabilities. From crossing the
border into war torn Bosnia to living in a flat in London outside
of the British Museum, the programs satisfy a wide range of
interests. Be sure to check out the Singapore
Summer Immersion Program, only available to first year students.
If you don’t have the time to take off a full semester to travel,
the summer is the perfect opportunity to make a shortened visit
while still having the experience of living in a foreign country.

Travel Rates
In addition to program information, find the price of these trips on the Study Abroad website. Also, updates on current events in the world are included on the website. If you want to try to find specific conditions about the country to want to visit (i.e. immunizations, culture, language) visit Lonely Planet. For ticket rates and more logistical aspects of your trip, try visiting Expedia or Travelocity. You can also check the country’s political and economic conditions on the US State Department website.
Summer School
Can’t get enough of the college life and want to stick around for one of the most beautiful seasons in Chapel Hill? Try Summer School, an opportunity to get some credits out of the way while relaxing a bit more to the slower pace of summer and shorter semester time frames. (LINK)
Off-Campus Options
Check out the DTH Classifieds to find off-campus options.
Burch Filed Seminars and Burch Fellows Programs
Yet another way to spend your summer delving deeper into issues that you might have only been able to spend a little time on during the semester. Burch Seminars are a hands-on approach, carrying knowledge from the classroom out onto the field of study. You can even apply to develop your own program through the Burch Fellows Program.
APPLES Summer Internships
In addition to service projects all over campus and Chapel Hill
and the alternative breaks offered in the Fall and Spring, APPLES
also provides students the opportunity to have a paid summer
internship. Interns work in service organizations throughout
North Carolina for 8-10 weeks during the summer. Make sure you
investigate early on when they become available at the beginning
of second semester in January. APPLES
