ACADEMIC SUGGESTIONS
1. Go to class. This may
seem dumb to say, but many people forget that we're here to
go to school. Even though the class doesn't take attendance,
you need to go!
2. Get to know your professors. After class, go and talk to
your professors about the class. If you need any help, ask them.
It never hurts to pop an email, and it doesn't take much time.
3. Keep a copy of your syllabi all semester. You never know
when you will forget when an assignment is due or how an assignment
goes. If you lose it, you might lose a lot of information you
will need.
4. Pick up a week-by-week, planner, or Palm Pilot to write down
assignments and due dates. Sometimes your memory will fail you.
5. Don't be afraid to ask questions in a class, no matter how
big it may be.
6. Form study groups for tough classes and tests.
7. Link the content of all of your courses, if you can. It can
help you study.
8. Try to identify your learning process. If you can learn by
listening, listen well. If you learn by taking notes, take good
notes. Until you figure those things out, you may struggle with
the best way to study.
9. Use the Writing Center.
10. Keep up with the reading and assignments in each class.
If you get behind, it will be HARD to catch back up.
11. Get some sleep!
12. Use caution when contemplating going out on Thursday night.
It's a popular night, but if you have morning classes on Friday,
it may not be the best idea.
13. Be prepared for recitations. You can learn so much from
participating fully in one recitation or class discussion.
14. Relax when you can.
15. Take the Honor Code seriously. Honor is an important thing,
and breaking the Honor Code has serious repercussions.
